A unique database in Latvia that contains qualifications obtainable in the Latvian education system. The database is unique because it is the only database in Latvia that has information on education qualifications referenced to the Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF).

The Latvian Qualifications Database does not reflect information on learning opportunities in the country. Information on learning opportunities is available on the National Learning Opportunities Database maintained by the State Education Development Agency.

In the context of the Latvian Qualifications Database, qualification is knowledge, skills and competences certified by an education document. It is not only professional qualification in vocational education.

In the context of the Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF) and this database, the concept qualification is expanded and refers to the entire education system, including all types of education and formal education documents.

In the database, you will find the qualifications of formal education, which can be obtained in Latvia and, which are awarded by the state accredited educations institutions qualifications obtainable in the education system of Latvia when graduating an accredited education programme or through validation of non-formal and informal learning outcomes from basic education to higher education.

Qualifications in the database are included automatically from the National Education Information System (NEIS) maintained by the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science. From NEIS we receive basic information about qualifications, such as the title of the qualification, LQF/EQF level, study programme, accreditation period, awarding body/-ies.

However, such an information as learning outcomes (knowledge, skills, competences) are included in the database manually from occupational standards for professional qualifications, from state education standards for general basic education and general secondary education, as well as from information provided by higher education institutions for higher education qualifications.

Yes, the database contains also historical qualifications that are no longer implemented in education institutions and education documents are no longer awarded for obtaining them.

In the database, you can find all qualifications that were active at the time of launching the database in 2016. At this point in the database, you can find active qualifications and also historical qualifications that haven’t been awarded in Latvia from 2016.

It is the title of the qualification, LQF/EQF level, awarding body, learning outcomes (knowledge, skills, competences) and examples of education documents are provided to Europass platform and other portals.

In order to find qualifications, you should press the button Search qualification, which opens a window where you can search qualifications by different criteria using filters.

You may search for the qualification by typing in the search bar the title or partial title of the qualification, or you may select for example a filter LQF/EQF level, which will show you all the qualifications available in the selected LQF/EQF level.

In order to view the statistics of qualifications and to select criteria for the statistical information, you should click the button Statistics, which opens a window where you can view statistical graphs with default information. By the default, you can see the statistics on all of the qualifications in the LQD in all criteria dimension.

To narrow the statistical information, it is possible to do it by selecting the preferred criteria by using filters.

To compare qualifications, you should click the button Search qualification. In the window that opens, you may see the list of all qualifications in the LQD. Under the title of each qualification there is a button Add to comparison. By pressing the button Add to comparison, the qualification will appear in a small window at the bottom of the screen.

You may add to comparison two qualifications. After adding chosen qualifications, and by clicking the button Compare in the window at the bottom of the screen a new tab with descriptions of selected qualifications side by side will appear.

In the description of every qualification, keywords are added at the bottom of the qualification’s description. Keywords characterises the nature of the qualification. By clicking on any keyword, a new tab will open with the list of qualifications that contain the same keyword.

Keywords provide an option to group and view qualifications that are similar in nature.
