To master basic courses of classical and modern physics and laboratory works;
– to study methods of theoretical physics necessary for qualitative description of natural and technical processes;
– to obtain knowledge of application of mathematics in natural sciences;
– to master computer skills and modern software in conducting experiments and modelling;
– to master the basics of discrete and analogue electronics and practical skills of their application;
– to develop the Bachelor’s thesis – an individual study of the Bachelor’s programme with topics corresponding to profile B courses of the programme – experimental physics, engineering physics, theoretical physics.
The program aims to develop students’ understanding of physics’ most important components, gradually raising the level of understanding and revealing the new phenomena, deepening the insight into laws that govern the behaviour of matter and radiation.
Physics Bachelor’s programme’s task is to develop the following students’ competences in physics and general capacities: to formulate and solve physical problems. Students learn how to identify the relevant physical principles, to evaluate the order of a magnitude, to formulate the problem and solve it, clearly distinguishing the assumptions and approximations;to plan, conduct and describe the experimental or theoretical research. Use appropriate methods of error and uncertainty assessment.
Compare the results with the relevant theoretical knowledge;to use mathematical methods in the physical description of the phenomenon. Students should be able to critically compare modeling results with observations and experiments.
Physics studies have to develop the following general skills and abilities: problem-solving skills. Students consider problems with a well-defined solution and also gain the insight into the problems for which the solution is not known. Students develop abilities to formulate problems using precise concepts and the identification of key factors. Students learn to use different approaches to a complex problem-solving process.
Research skills. Students develop these skills through independent study. Students learn how to find information using books, monographs, journal articles, databases, and communicating with colleagues.
Communication skills. Physics and mathematical physics methods are characterized by surprising ideas and difficult concepts, it is very important to develop communication skills, students learn to listen carefully, to read complex texts, to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Analytical skills. Students learn to pay attention to detail, develop the capacity to manipulate the precise and complex ideas, to construct logical arguments and the correct use of technical terms. IT skills. During the studies, students develop these abilities in various ways, including the ability to use programming languages and software packages.
Personal skills. Students develop the skills of an individual work, to take initiative to organize their work in compliance with the deadline, to communicate constructively with the colleagues.
