Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

    1. To arrange a hair stylist’s workplace, ensure the number and quality of required materials, range of tools and devices and to observe conditions for their storage.
    2. To listen to and understand a client’s wishes and to understand the general mood of the task.
    3. To analyse a client’s individual style.
    4. To determine the hair structure and texture, type of hair and skin, health condition, recognize hair and skin damage and diseases.
    5. To determine the shape of body and face, spot opportunities for its harmonizing and correction through a hairstyle.
    6. To model a hairstyle according to the individual stylistic image, the client’s personality and peculiarities of hair and skin.
    7. To draw hairstyles and read and develop hairstyle creation technological schemes.
    8. To design a style collage according to the individual stylistic image.
    9. To explain the final result of the hair stylist’s task and prepare a client for the servicing process.
    10. To wash hair and massage the head skin.
    11. To create diverse everyday and evening hairstyles and hairstyle elements for various hair lengths and use means of artistic expression.
    12. To create variations of hairstyles by observing a unified style of hair, make-up and dress.
    13. To cut and thin hair according to the task.
    14. To divide hair into zones according to the hair cutting scheme.
    15. To use various hair styling methods: to backcomb, corrugate, straighten, curl, make hot and cold ondulation.
    16. To set hair with a hairdryer by lifting hair at the roots, waving hair for making the necessary hairstyle shape.
    17.  To roll hair on rollers according to the technological schemes, create a hairstyle.
    18. To use products made of natural and artificial hair and other materials, weave, clip on and sew on hair extensions or other products.
    19. To determine the client’s colouring and to select the most appropriate option for the overall image by using the hair colour palette.
    20. To check for an allergic reaction of head skin before starting the chemical processes.
    21. To perform chemical processing of hair (pigment, dye and bleach hair, remove the artificial hair colour).
    22. To recommend hair care products for using at home to the client.
    23. To perform make-up according to the overall image and individual colouring or correct the face with decorative cosmetics.
    24. To create a beard and moustache shape according to the face shape and overall image.
    25. To plan the time and sequence of tasks for the creation of a client’s stylistic image.
    26. To involve the specialists required to perform the task, plan, and organize their work.
    27. To find, select,  and use information for ensuring the improvement of the hair stylist’s work process.
    28. To develop a maintenance system for the created visual image.
    29. To use information technologies and computer programmes for creation of style collages.
    30. To work without assistance,  assess their quality and assume responsibility for the result of their own work.
    31. To put in order their own workplace before and after client servicing.
    32. To calculate the total cost of an individual stylistic image creation service.
    33. To prepare the required reports.
    34. To observe the basic principles of professional and general ethics.
    35. To observe the standards of legal employment relations.

  • Competences/ autonomy

    1. Ability to understand the client’s requests, their individuality and hair and skin peculiarities.
    2. Ability to model hairstyles with idea sketches and collages in accordance with the developed individual stylistic image.
    3. Ability to improve the desired idea of individual stylistic image in accordance with client’s desires by having a good knowledge of hairstyles, make-up and dress fashion history and current trends.
    4. Ability to draw technological schemes of modelled hairstyles, develop process charts for hair cutting and chemical treatment processes.
    5. Ability to plan a technological process sequence for the creation of an individual stylistic image.
    6. Ability to choose materials, tools, accessories and devices, working clothes and personal protective equipment, appropriate for the work to be performed.
    7. Ability to wash hair, massaging head skin by using the appropriate professional hair care products.
    8. Ability to cut and thin hair in compliance with the technological schemes and process charts.
    9. Ability to determine the client’s individual colouring.
    10. Ability to set, dye and perform chemical treatment of hair in compliance with instructions and using appropriate technologies.
    11. Ability to create various hairstyles for different hair lengths by choosing and using appropriate materials, working technologies and means of artistic expression.
    12. Ability to carefully create different complexity products and decorations from cut hair and hair replacements, take care of them and use them creatively in the working process .
    13. Ability to transform hairstyles of an individual stylistic image, using professional and alternative hairstyle making and fixing products.
    14. Ability to create make-up and perform face correction with decorative cosmetic products in accordance with the customer’s individual stylistic image.
    15. Ability to shave head, beard, and moustache, and cut beard and moustache, creating various forms in accordance with the morphological peculiarities of the client’s face and the visual image chosen by the client by using appropriate technologies and professional skin care cosmetics.
    16. Ability to harmonize the client’s hairstyle, make-up and dress according to the particular situation and assess the quality of their work.
    17. Ability to recommend to the client appropriate professional hair care cosmetics and methods for hair styling at home.
    18. Ability to consult the client about the maintenance system and transformation options of the created hairstyle.
    19. Ability to attract clients by advertising and selling their own services.
    20. Ability to arrange and maintain the working environment and their own workplace in order.
    21. Ability to perform work without assistance or in a team, and assume responsibility for the result of one’s own work.
    22. Ability to attract the required specialists for the creation of an individual stylistic image.
    23. Ability to calculate the total costs of service and prepare required accounts.
    24. Ability to create collections of most topical hairstyles, creatively analyse fashion trends of hairstyles, make-up and dresses, the latest technologies and working methods in the hair stylist’s work by using various sources of information.
    25. Ability to improve a hairstylist’s professional skills and competences.
    26. Ability to observe the rstandards of the legal employment relations.
    27. Ability to observe the requirements of the labour protection laws and regulations, use personal protective tools and perform job duties without causing harm to one’s own health and the health of other persons.
