Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF) has 8 levels (1 – the lowest, 8 – the highest).

Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

    2. Ability to carefully develop and read process charts and technological schemes for creating hairstyles, understand the instructions and use the obtained information in the working process.
    3. Ability to model and draw technological schemes for hairstyle creation and perform work processes according to the schemes.
    4. Ability to communicate and cooperate by developing positive communication, use one’s professional knowledge for creating the client’s individual image.
    5. Ability to creatively recommend to the client overall image transformation options and correctly consult on the maintenance and care of the created overall image.
    6. Ability to adequately assess the health condition of a clients’ hair and skin and to determine signs of disease, distinguish types of disease, make a decision about the appropriate work process and using professional hair cosmetics.
    7. Ability to carefully wash hair and massage head by using appropriate professional hair care products, and recommend hair care products for home use to the client.
    8. Ability to create various hairstyles for different hair lengths by choosing and using appropriate materials and working technologies.
    9. Ability to creatively perform various types of hair ondulation and create hairstyles with ondulation elements.
    10. Ability to model, create, and execute collections of hairstyle fashion by creatively analysing fashion trends and using various means of artistic expression.
    11. Ability to cut and thin hair precisely basing on the schemes and using appropriate technologies.
    12. Ability to shave a head and moustache, shave a beard and moustache by creating various forms in accordance with the morphological peculiarities of a client’s face and the visual image chosen by the client byusing appropriate technologies and professional skin care cosmetics.
    13. Ability to precisely prepare and perform the process of chemical processing of hair by observing instructions and using appropriate technologies.
    14. Ability to carefully create different complexity products and decorations from cut hair and hair replacements, take care of them and use them creatively in the working process.
    15. Ability to precisely and systematically perform economically grounded calculations for ensuring the technological process.
    16. Ability to observe electrical safety and fire safety requirements in the working environment, upon necessity, reacting adequately, and an ability to provide the first aid, choose and use safe working methods.
    17. Ability to choose working tools, accessories and equipment, work clothing and personal protective equipment appropriate for the work to be performed.
    18. Ability to precisely choose and use disinfectants according to instructions and sanitary-hygienic requirements.
    19. Ability to choose professional cosmetics appropriate for the work task and precisely observe instructions for use of such cosmetics.
    20. Ability to observe the environmental protection requirements and to perform job duties without causing harm to the environment.
    21. Ability to improve their own qualification in compliance with development in the sector and labour market demand and becoming acquainted with the latest materials, tools, technologies and working methods on a regular basis and individually.
    22. Ability to practically apply the requirements of the laws and regulations governing the processes in the sector, organization of commercial activity, safe working methods and a considerate attitude towards nature.
    23. Ability to communicate in the official language and in one foreign language.
