Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF) has 8 levels (1 – the lowest, 8 – the highest).

Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

Countryside tourism specialist

  • Knowledge

    1. The knowledge necessary for performance of the basic tasks of the professional activity at the level of notion:

    1.2. traditional and non-traditional methods of farming in the countryside;
    1.3. premises aesthetics and design adaptation according to the countryside tourism.
    1.4. speech and movement culture;

    1. Ability to organize and offer local and regional countryside tourism services and activities in accordance with the tourism quality system requirements.
    2. Ability to provide countryside tourism services in accordance with the clients wishes and possibilities.
    3. Ability to design and distinguish countryside tourism products and service types by using information search instruments.
    4. Ability to perform the orders related to the countryside tourism services and draw up supporting documents in accordance with the document management and accounting requirements.
    5. Ability to accept and register a guest in the company of the countryside tourism, meet the requirements of the personal data protection laws and regulations.
    6. Ability to inform and sell to the guest countryside tourism services and additional services, inform about local tourism, social, culture and nature resources.
    7. Ability to listen up the guest desires, offer additional service in accordance to the target audience.
    8. Ability to choose and use the necessary resources for the work performance.
    9. Ability to decide on the works to be performed, their sequence, most appropriated resources, materials and means when designing and implementing the countryside tourism services.
    10. Ability to use information technologies, data bases and other information sources and acquaint oneself with the latest development directions in the countryside tourism service quality assurance.
    11. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the process of additional services in cooperation with the persons involved in the countryside tourism.
    12. Ability to determine the costs of the countryside tourism services and the offered tourism product prices.
    13. Ability to settle payments with a guest for the  provided countryside tourism services by making a payment in cash or with a credit card.
    14. Ability to inform guests on the surrounding tourism infrastructure, objects, active leisure, overnight and catering possibilities and environment peculiarities.
    15. Ability to order and receive products and material and technical means for the work performance.
    16. Ability to understand wishes guests, solve different situations at the level of one’s competence and act accordingly in non-standard situations.
    17. Ability to know the organization of the operation of tourism host places, personnel duties and responsibilities.
    18. Ability to create positive communication by observing thenational culture differences, basic principles of professional and general ethics.
    19. Ability to keep regular feedback with the guests about the countryside tourism services to assess its demand and quality and to ensure repeated sales of services.
    20. Ability to observe the internal regulations of the company as well as inform guests about their observance.
    21. Ability to assess and use traditional and non-traditional management methods in the countryside.
    22. Ability to work individually and in a team, be responsible for the own work result.
    23. Ability to improve the professional knowledge and skills according to the countryside tourism requirements.
    24. Ability to communicate in the offficial language and at least two foreign languages by using professional terminology.
    25. Ability to meet the labour and environmental protection requirements set in the laws and regulations, as well as fire safety and electrical safety requirements.
    26. Ability to observe the standards of the legal employment relations and the related laws and regulations.
    27. Ability to observe the hygiene and sanitary standards.
    28. Ability to provide the first aid.

Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).

The unit of the volume of Latvian higher education studies - 1 credit point corresponds to one week of study work in full-time studies (40 credit points per study year).
