Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

    1. To take and evaluate human vital signs measurements (pulse, temperature, blood pressure).
    2. To comply with the laws and regulations on hygiene in beauty care, personal hygiene requirements, public health promotion measures and prevention of infectious diseases.
    3. To evaluate various types of cosmetic products, formulations and choose them according to skin and hair types and condition, evaluate microbiological quality, safety and compliance of cosmetic products with regulatory requirements.
    4. To characterize the client’s constitutional type and appearance.

    26. To select and recommend to the client appropriate cosmetic mesotherapy session.

    29. To carry out self-massage.
    30. To create a customer’s visual image by offering clothing color analysis and style advice, including selection of appropriate accessories and hairstyle.
    31. To apply make-up according to the customer’s needs and style.
    32. To perform classic manicure, pedicure and nail polishing procedures.
    33. To apply color palette philosophy in professional practice.
    34. To develop practical skills in business etiquette and communication culture.
    35. To draw up employment and other contracts related to professional activities.
    36. To possess computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point).
    37. To choose and apply the most optimal model of business activities, analyze processes, information, plan his/her activities within the limits of professional competence, adhere to legal requirements and ethical principles.
    38. To prepare accounting and financial documents necessary for professional activities.
    39. To draw up documents in accordance with record-keeping requirements and relevant industry laws and regulations.

    1. Ability to understand the regularities and correlations of physiological processes in a healthy human body.
    2. Knowledge of basic healthy lifestyle principles and understanding of the positive impact of health promoting factors on the quality of life; understanding of the relationship between the physical, mental and social health in the professional work context.
    3. Understanding of the basic skin disease diagnostic principles; awareness of his/her scope of competence with respect to skin diseases.
    4. Ability to determine the role of the nervous system in the functioning of an organ or the body as a whole; to describe and analyze physiological problems, identify some most common diseases.
    5. Ability to identify cause-and-effect relationship between the impact of addiction and sexually transmitted diseases on general and reproductive health.
    6. Ability to assess the nutritional value of products, choose and recommend particular products for domestic use by customers of various ages, including specific clients, such as athletes, pregnant women, nursing mothers and the elderly.
    7. Ability to identify and analyze the client’s skin and body type, condition and choose an appropriate technique to cure a cosmetic problem.
    8. Ability to choose, substantiate and carry out facial and body cosmetic treatment and preventive procedures according to skin type and condition.

    13. Ability to diagnose causes of cellulite and other body cosmetic defects, evaluate care principles, choose and apply cosmetic products to address the problem.
    14. Ability to carry out individual color analysis and recommend to the client appropriate make-up forms and colors.
    15. Ability to understand the role of communication in professional customer service, build a positive, caring and professional dialogue with clients, employers and colleagues.
    16. Ability to deal with body and facial aesthetic problems using aromatherapy.
    17. Ability to introduce a client to self-massage techniques.
    18. Ability to analyze interpersonal conflicts, to understand the effects of stress on human activity and behavior.
    19. Ability to evaluate and develop his/her personal emotions, skills, attitudes and values, expand perceptions of himself/herself by recognizing individual creative potential and building healthy self-confidence and discovering possibilities of personal development and expression.
    20. Ability to develop interpersonal competence, increase sensitivity to other people and promote successful communication with others in order to harmonize communication process, improve well-being, provide opportunities for relaxation, identify and develop self-confidence and confidence in others.
    21. Ability to evaluate competitive professional environment, identify company’s and competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, determine the most effective advertising tool for a specific target group of clients and assess advertising effectiveness.
    22. Ability to evaluate and analyze the impact of the demand for a cosmetology product on selling of goods and the company’s revenues; evaluate and analyze pricing principles depending on the company’s costs, commodity demand and prices of competitors.
