LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

  • Skills

    1. To be able to establish the church’s musical activities in a creative manner, including them in church service.
    2. To be able to use musical and liturgical content to enrich the congregation’s daily life and promote activity.
    3. To be able to evaluate, plan and prepare music for church service in accordance with the church’s determined liturgical context of the time, taking into account the type of service (mass, hourly prayers, various devotionals such as matrimonies, funerary ceremonies etc.) and the time of the liturgical year.
    4. To be able to involve the organ and other instruments in the church service.
    5. To be able to professionally play the organ, as well as other musical instruments both individually and as accompaniment for a choir, ensemble or soloists.
    6. To be able to compose song introduction and accompaniment in a creative and professional manner.
    7. To be able to compose appropriate accompaniment for liturgical activities.
    8. To be able to play organ compositions suitable for the service.
    9. To be able to develop and manage work in all areas of music provided by the congregation (adult choir, children’s choir, youth ensemble, trumpet choir, recorder ensemble).
    10. To be able to keep in touch with the participants and leaders of musical units.
    11. To be able to organise the congregation’s musical work within the framework of diaconal and mission work.
    12. To be able to organise, plan and host musical events within the congregation outside church service such as concerts, performances etc. in accordance with the church’s liturgical year.
    13. To comply with the church and state regulations.
    14. To meet the requirements of employment relationship.
    15. To adhere to the principles of professional and general ethics.
    16. To work under the supervision of a pastor.
    17. To be able to communicate and collaborate with the staff of other church units.
    18. To be able to self-educate, practising instrument playing, cultivating managerial skills and attending educational courses on a regular basis.

    1. Ability to responsibly and independently, under a pastor’s supervision, create liturgical music for the congregation in accordance with the liturgical and administrative arrangements of the church.
    2. Ability to play musical instruments necessary for church service.
    3. Ability to manage and form the congregation’s singing.
    4. Ability to organise and manage the congregation’s collective musical units.
    5. Ability to creatively and professionally organise, develop the congregation’s musical activities.
    6. Ability to prepare a repertoire according to the church’s liturgical context.
    7. Ability to theologically reflect and justify the content of the church’s musical and liturgical activities.
    8. Ability to provide creative communication within the church and beyond.
    9. Ability to analyse and evaluate one’s professional activities.
    10. Ability to take part in the designing and implementation of professional development programs.
    11. Ability to expand one’s theological and musical knowledge to carry out permanent practice.

Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).

The unit of the volume of Latvian higher education studies - 1 credit point corresponds to one week of study work in full-time studies (40 credit points per study year).
