Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

    2. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of understanding :

  • Skills

    1. To set a logistics  company’s business objectives and identify current issues in Latvia and globally.
    2. To develop proposals regarding the location of the distribution point (warehouse) of goods and services, choice of distribution types.
    3. To develop recommendations for multimodal management improvement.
    4. To evaluate the conditions of cooperation with partners, develop and manage relevant processes.
    5. To evaluate the performance of a terminal, draw up proposals for development thereof.
    6. To evaluate the economic benefits of a company, analyse economic performance, optimize costs.
    7. To define the tasks of the logistics department within a company, be able to assess the main duties of other departments and the logistics department’s directions of cooperation with them.
    8. To apply information technologies in the management of logistics processes.
    9. To aply the  relevant laws and regulations when signing contracts for supplies at a local and international level subject to international trade and transport rules.
    10. To observe the rules of transportation by different modes of transport, or a combination thereof, analyse international and local transport processes.
    11. To know at least two foreign languages at a communication level.
    12. To use professional terminology in the official language and at least two foreign languages.
    13. To know the official language.
    14. To apply the laws and regulations governing the field of logistics, professional ethics and act accordingly.
    15. To meet the regulations of the legal employment relationship.
    16. To comply with labour protection, fire safety and environmental protection requirements.
    17. To prepare and deliver presentations.

  • Competences/ autonomy

    1. Ability to manage the logistics department and ensure the professional growth of employees.
    2. Ability to cooperate with other departments.
    3. Ability to cooperate with suppliers, buyers and service providers.
    4. Ability to understand general economic regularities.
    5. Ability to predict the dynamics of economic regularities and a company’s desired actions.
    6. Ability to conduct research of a scientific value and innovative solutions in the fields of material values, movement, storage and transport of goods.
    7. Ability to manage the operation of a distribution centre or terminal.
    8. Ability to determine the costs and movement intensity of logistics processes.
    9. Ability to communicate in the official language and at least two foreign languages.
    10. Ability to meet the requirements of employment relationship.
    11. Ability to ensure compliance with the requirements of labour protection, fire safety and environmental protection laws and regulations.
    12. Ability to utilize information technologies to carry out one’s activities.
    13. Ability to prepare presentation materials and present them.

Ways to acquire 
Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).

The unit of the volume of Latvian higher education studies - 1 credit point corresponds to one week of study work in full-time studies (40 credit points per study year).
