1. To understand the interaction between economic, social and environmental development and the concept of sustainable development as a basis for environmental management.

1. Ability to apply environmental and general regulations of the Republic of Latvia and the European Union, as well as international regulations, and utilize the options of the environmental protection institutional system for dealing with environmental management challenges.
2. Ability to gather, systematize and analyse the information about environmental protection and management.
3. Ability to develop database structure and prepare informative and analytical reports for the execution of environmental management tasks.
4. Ability to apply a company’s administrative management principles and the record-keeping system in the preparation of documents (contracts, agreements, applications, letters, etc.) and development of staff management tasks.
5. Ability to analyse and evaluate the quality of the environment, plan environmental management measures, determining the required materially technical basis and human resources and carrying out calculations of economic efficiency.
6. Ability to organize environmental quality control, analyse obtained results, develop proposals to preserve, improve or restore environmental quality, using special computer programs of environmental quality assessment, forecasting and modelling.
7. Ability to participate in the environmental impact assessment process.
8. Ability to prepare the technical tasks of environmental projects and carry out project coordination, and draw up applications to receive permits of natural resource use and other permits.
9. Ability to carry out environmental communication tasks, preparing information to the public about the environment, quality and challenges thereof, finding out public opinion and involving it in dealing with these challenges through environmental education methods.
10. Ability to prepare environmental project applications and participate in evaluation thereof.
11. Ability to promote public participation in building sustainable development.
12. Ability to define research goals and objectives in the field of environmental management, draw up plans for pilot studies, carry out experimental data analysis by using computer programs and mathematical analysis methods.
