LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Till 1 august 2022 in Latvia had a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

Graduates of the study program are able:  
– to use modern technologies, to apply specialized product development and production design methods;   
– to carry out independent creative tasks and work in any textile-related industry, to solve problems related to product selection, organization of production and distribution of products, while following and promoting the development of modern technologies to ensure high-quality production;   
– to define and critically analyze difficult scientific and professional problems, substantiate decisions and, if necessary, perform additional analysis;  
– to integrate knowledge from different fields, to contribute to the development of new professional activity methods, to show their understanding and moral responsibility on the possible impact of the professional activities on the environment and the society.

 

Clothing and textile manufacturing engineer

  • Knowledge

    1. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of notion:
    1.1. sociology and political science;
    1.2. basics of communication;
    1.3. principles of ethics;
    1.4. marketing;
    1.5. clothing and textile logistics.
    2. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of understanding:
    2.1. general engineering – mathematics, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical sciences of clothing and textile industries;
    2.2. basics of visual arts;
    2.3. basics of fashion commodity science;
    2.4. economic sciences, including clothing and textile manufacturing economics, business feasibility analysis;
    2.5. accounting;
    2.6. finances, innovation efficiency;
    2.7. professional terminology in the official language and two foreign languages.
    3. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of use:
    3.1. general engineering – descriptive geometry and engineering graphics, computer science, textile chemistry, textile finish;
    3.2. textile and commodity science;
    3.3. traditional and advanced technologies of the clothing and textile industry (individual and mass production);
    3.4. technological equipment, tools and gear of the clothing and textile industry;
    3.5. business and workshop design of the clothing and textile industry;
    3.6. design of clothing and textile products and technology, design automation;
    3.7. visual design of clothing and textile;
    3.8. clothing and textile quality management and control, control system development and maintenance;
    3.9. basics of project management;
    3.10. legal employment relationship;
    3.11. civil protection;
    3.12. labour protection;
    3.13. environmental protection;
    3.14. official language;
    3.15. two foreign languages at the communication level.

  • Skills

    1. To carry out a professional analysis of the work task, information processing and alignment of the work task with the technological possibilities of manufacturing.
    2. To use the required technical and legal documentation, technical standards of the industry and industry-related legal documentation, prepare business documents.
    3. To analyse, evaluate and make use of scientific and applied research, utilize information search and selection tools, introduce new technologies and software.
    4. To be fully aware of the traditional and modern technologies of clothing and textile manufacturing, assess the technological abilities and compliance with the latest trends of the existing equipment, substantiate the need for replacement and efficiency of the equipment.
    5. To analyse the market situation of the clothing and textile manufacture industry, as well as trends thereof, and evaluate the sales opportunities of the manufactured product.
    6. To purposefully use the capacity of the equipment and provide maintenance thereof.
    7. To rationally organize the execution of inter-related work processes.
    8. To determine equipment layout and organise division of labour among workers.
    9. To deal with strategic and analytical aspects of the development issues of the clothing and textile industry.
    10. To take part in production projects analysis, development, coordination and management, draw up the budged of a project or program and adhere to it in the work process.
    11. To introduce only environmentally friendly technologies.
    12. To know the official language.
    13. To know two foreign languages at a communication level.
    14. To use professional terminology in the official language and one foreign language.
    15. Working in a team/group, to plan, organize and manage teamwork, establish task priorities, perform work also individually.
    16. To carry out innovation and research work.
    17. To participate in event planning and organization.
    18. To explain one’s opinion, convince others and deal with conflict situations.
    19. To adhere to the principles of professional and general ethics.
    20. To comply with labour protection, fire safety and hygiene requirements.
    21. To systematically improve professional qualification.

  • Competences/ autonomy

    1. Ability to prepare technical documentation of clothing and textile manufacturing.
    2. Ability to determine optimal volumes of technical batches/orders.
    3. Ability to inspect and choose from offers concerning materials, consumables and fittings and control quality thereof.
    4. Ability to provide orders with the required volume of materials and consumables and determine inter-operation reserves.
    5. Ability to evaluate and determine technology necessary for the fulfilment of the order.
    6. Ability to develop the sequence of technological operations and determine the time required to perform them.
    7. Ability to determine required technological equipment and plan placement thereof.
    8. Ability to develop business/production plans of a department.
    9. Ability to organize and manage the staff of a department.
    10. Ability to analyse costs and establish production calculations.
    11. Ability to plan work and organise timely execution thereof.
    12. Ability to track and control amount of work and other resources.
    13. Ability to deal with logistics tasks concerning clothing and textile manufacturing.
    14. Ability to ensure the stability of the quality of the technological process and products.
    15. Ability to ensure compliance with the requirements of environmental and labour protection regulations.
    16. Ability to communicate in the official language and two foreign languages.

Qualification acquisition requirements

Previous education
Higher education qualification of LQF level 6 (bachelor, professional bachelor or professional higher education qualification) in the same or compatible branch of science or professional field of higher education, as well as a certain professional experience laid down by higher education institution
Ways to acquire 
Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).
