Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Till 1 august 2022 in Latvia had a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

To demonstrate deeper knowledge and understanding characteristic to Sports Science, a part of which is academic disciplines of the Sports Science fields and of education and sport specialist professional field, and which provide basis for creative thinking and research including activities in related fields;
– to use independently theories, methods and the skills of problem solving to carry out research work in the field of Sports Science and highly qualified professional functions of education and sport specialist;
– to define independently and analyze critically complicated scientific and professional problems in the field of Sports Science;
– to make and substantiate decisions, and, if necessary, to make additional analysis;
– to contribute to the creation of new knowledge, to the development of Sports Science research methods and to the methods of professional activity of recreation specialist;
– to demonstrate understanding and ethical responsibility about Sports Science result or the possible influence of education and sport specialist’s professional activity on the environment and society;
– to explain to specialists and non-specialists using arguments and discuss about complicated or systematic academic disciplines of Sports Science or the aspects of professional field of education and sport specialist;
– to develop independently one’s competences and specialization;
– to carry out work, research or further education in complicated and unpredictable conditions and, if necessary, to change them, applying new approaches;
– to obtain recreation specialist professional competence in accordance with the recreation specialist standard;
– to develop the ability to make scientific principles appropriate research in Sports Science;
– to summarize results of the research in Master thesis and defend it publicly.

 

Recreation specialist

  • Knowledge

    1. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of notion:
    1.1. recreational philosophy and basics of development;
    1.2. scientific research in recreation, concept of recreational education;
    1.3. nature of recreation and implementation basics;
    2. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of understanding:
    2.1. basics of law;
    2.2. global recreation geography;
    2.3. basics of recreation business;
    2.4. presentation of a recreational product;
    2.5. basics of accounting and financial planning.
    2.6. basics of document management ;
    2.7. professional terminology in the official language and at least two foreign languages.
    3. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of use:
    3.1. basics of recreation;
    3.2. social rights;
    3.3. regulations governing the fields of sports and tourism;
    3.4. Latvian recreational geography;
    3.5. environment, natural and anthropogenic sources as recreational objects;
    3.6. recreational products for outdoor use;
    3.7. development and management of recreational routes and infrastructure projects, events and programs;
    3.8. pedagogical and psychological aspects of recreational services when working with individuals of different age groups;
    3.9. principles of business communication, team work organization;
    3.10. health promotion, national health promotion policies;
    3.11. health psychology theories on the choice of health behaviour;
    3.12. pedagogical, psychological and physiological basis of human physical and mental well-being;
    3.13. personal hygiene, healthy nutrition, food safety;
    3.14. safety requirements for recreational activities outdoors and under extreme conditions;
    3.15. first aid in case of an accident;
    3.16. environmental protection;
    3.17. recreation management, laws and regulations and professional ethics;
    3.18. computer skills, use of internet resources;
    3.19. information technologies;
    3.20. official language;
    3.21. at least two foreign languages at the communication level;

  • Skills

    1. To comply with laws and regulations, as well as other documents governing citizens’ leisure activities and health.
    2. To collaborate with recreation-enhancing institutions, public authorities and local governments, private individuals.
    3. To cooperate with international organizations of recreation.
    4. To understand the nature and social relevance of one’s profession.
    5. To evaluate, use and compare the latest scientific findings and technologies in one’s professional activities.
    6. To apply acquired knowledge in practice, as well as carry out research activities in the field of recreation.
    7. To adopt decisions within one’s competence and provide feedback from the society.
    8. To understand the interaction and relationship of recreational activities and the environment.
    9. To select recreation means and methods according to clients’ contingent, environmental conditions and resources.
    10. To determine recreational opportunities in a given region, evaluate and apply innovative technologies in the field of recreation.
    11. To have a good knowledge of and use factors that determine citizens’ involvement in recreational activities.
    12. To substantiate the importance and necessity of leisure and recreational activities to improve health.
    13. To advise potential customers and provide them with information on recreational issues.
    14. To respect the needs of customers and provide quality recreation services and control.
    15. To know techniques and methods of developing and improving mutual relations and cooperation skills.
    16. To provide a complex variety of recreational services.
    17. To assess the impact of recreational activities on human physical, mental strength and health.
    18. To coordinate development and implementation of recreational activities, projects and programs.
    19. To inform any audience about one’s performance.
    20. To substantiate one’s opinion and respect other people’s opinion.
    21. To observe the principles of ethics.

    24. To have a good command of the official language.

    1. Ability to scientifically justify the importance of recreation in human health preservation and strengthening.
    2. Ability to scientifically justify the application of recreational means in the recovery of human physical and mental strength.
    3. Ability to use appropriate forms, resources and activities of recreation, physical activities to improve the physical form of various target groups of clients and promote physical and mental health.
    4. Ability to know and utilize recreational resources.
    5. Ability to use information to optimize one’s activities.
    6. Ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in practice.
    7. Ability to communicate and collaborate with national and local institutions in organizing recreational activities, attract clients.
    8. Ability to motivate people to engage in recreational activities.
    9. Ability to provide a complex variety of recreational activities.
    10. Ability to develop recreational activity projects, plans and content with respect to the target group.
    11. Ability to define goals, objectives, tasks and methods for different groups of clients.

Qualification acquisition requirements

Previous education
Higher education qualification of LQF level 6 (bachelor, professional bachelor or professional higher education qualification) in the same or compatible branch of science or professional field of higher education, as well as a certain professional experience laid down by higher education institution
Ways to acquire 
Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).
