Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

    1. To read working drawings and technical documentation.
    2. To understand the work task in accordance with the set of technological processes.
    3. To select and use appropriate equipment, tools, measuring instruments, control tools necessary for the work task.
    4. To choose appropriate auxiliary materials for the work task.
    5. To sharpen tools  necessary for locksmith’s work.
    6. Tohoose the necessary sequence of the assembly and dismantling works.
    7. To dperform technical maintenance according to the technical documentation.
    8. To perform scribing, cutting, bending, filing, reaming, threading, adjustment, riveting, bending, pressing, grinding, scraping, straightening, rolling, lapping, polishing, threading, soldering and measuring works.
    9. To assess conformity of the made junctions withthe technical requirements.
    10. To maintain the work place in order during working hours and put it in order everything after finishing work.
    11. To understand and observe the  environmental protection laws and regulations.
    12. To observe and use work safety signs and signals.
    13. To observe the  electrical and fire safety rules.
    14. To use protective equipment of work machines
    15. To check conformity of the work tools with the labour protection laws and regulations.
    16. To use individual protection means.
    17. To provide the first aid.
    18. To have a good command of the state language
    19. To have a good command of the one foreign language at the comunication level.
    20. To use professional terminology in the state language and in one foreign language.
    21. To acquire necessary the KNOWLEDGE necessary forimprovement of professional qualifications, follow the information about the latest technologies in metalworking and a locksmith’s work.
    22. To organise the own work, collaborate with other employees, work in a team within the framework of the work tasks.
    23. To observe the legal employment regulations.
    24. To observe the professional and general ethical principles.
    25. To perform the work independently and be responsible for the work result.

  • Competences/ autonomy

    1. Ability to use the  information necessary for performance of the work duties, perform the work on the basis of the technical documentation and communication with the work supervisor.
    2. Ability to use the materials, tools, accessories and auxiliary materials necessary for performance of the work task.
    3. Ability to prepare machines, accessories and tools for work.
    4. Ability to perform scribing, cutting, bending, filing, reaming, threading, adjustment, riveting, bending, pressing, grinding, scraping, straightening, rolling, lapping, polishing, threading, soldering and measuring works.
    5. Ability to make equipment and node maintenance in accordance with the technical documentation.
    6. Ability to perform assembly and dismantling works.
    7. Ability to maintain locksmith tools, appliances and machines in working order in accordance with the operating rules.
    8. Ability to check and maintain locksmith tools, appliances and machines in working order in accordance with th requirements of the labour protection laws and regulations.
    9. Ability to observe the requirements of labour protection  including the use of protective clothing and individual protective equipment in accordance with the labour protection laws and regulations, use the machine protection equipment.
    10. Ability to provide the first aid.
    11. Ability to meet the requirements of environmental protection regulatory enactments without doing harm to the environment.
    12. Ability to communicate in the state language and in one foreign language.
    13. Ability to professionally develop and follow the latest technologies in locksmith ‘s work.
    14. Ability to do work independently and be responsible for the work result.
    15. Ability to observe the professional and ethical principles.
    16. Ability to observe the legal employment regulations.

Qualification acquisition requirements

Previous education
From the age of 15, the transcript of records for partially acquired general basic education OR Certificate of general basic education
Ways to acquire 
Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).

ECTS credit points 
The unit of the volume of Latvian higher education studies - 1 credit point corresponds to one week of study work in full-time studies (40 credit points per study year).
