Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF) has 8 levels (1 – the lowest, 8 – the highest).

Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Latvia has a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

    1. To understand the task given by its technical drawing, technological map or base model.
    2. To assess the compatibility of the cut articles to the technical instructions.
    3. To choose equipment, its ancillary devices and instruments which is suitable to the work to carry out.
    4. To understand the meaning of marks on the components of the cut article.
    5. To combine the components of the article.
    6. To determine the compatibility of article components to the knot to be made.
    7. To choose appropriate ancillary materials and fittings according to the technological requirements.
    8. To carry out the visual and technical testing of sewing and hygrothermal equipment before starting the work.
    9. To carry out the technical maintenance of the sewing equipment.
    10. To prepare the cut article for trying on.
    11. To carry out the technological regulation of the devices according to the sewing and hygrothermal processing parameters.
    12. To cut elements and ancillary materials of individual components by using templates or cuttings.
    13. To process the components of the article before sewing the knots.
    14. To use personal protective equipment.
    15. To sew the articles.
    16. To eliminate small defects during the operation of sewing equipment.
    17. To work independently and take responsibility and control for the results of your work.
    18. To choose the thermal processing according to the materials of the articles.
    19. To choose and carry out appropriate inter-operations and final hygrothermal processing to the article material.
    20. To recognize the constructive details and elements of the articles.
    21. To assess the defects of the articles.
    22. To select necessary materials and processing method for article fixing.

  • Competences/ autonomy

    1. Ability to prepare the working place according to the task received by choosing the appropriate ancillary materials, instruments, equipment and their ancillary devices.
    2. Ability to choose an appropriate knot processing according to the technological requirements.
    3. Ability to choose appropriate ancillary materials and fittings for producing the article according to the technological requirements.
    4. Ability to assemble the components according to the marks and cut components.
    5. Ability to check on the compatibility of cut details to the knot to be made by taking into consideration the permitted displacement in the cuttings.
    6. Ability to cut separate components and elements by taking into consideration the technological rules by using the provided templates or cuttings and appropriate instruments.
    7. Ability to assess the visual and technical compatibility of the sewing equipment according to the requirements of the technical documentation.
    8. Ability to carry out technical maintenance of the sewing equipment according to the requirements of the usage and technical documentation of the equipment.
    9. Ability to qualitatively sew tha articles by choosing appropriate devices and instruments without assistance.
    10. Ability to prepare the articles for trying on by using appropriate equipment, ancillary materials and instruments.
    11. Ability to regulate the devices according to the appropriate sewing and hygrothermal processing parameters.
    12. Ability to carry out the necessary processing and duplication of the article components with ancillary materials before sewing of the knots.
    13. Ability to produce articles by following the sewing sequence and provided technological requirements.
    14. Ability to eliminate small defect in the operating of hygrothermal devices by following the requirements of technical documentation of the equipment.
    15. Ability to choose and carry out appropriate inter-operations and final hygrothermal processing to the article material.
    16. Ability to fix the article by assessing the type of the defect, choosing the most appropriate materials and processing for its eliminating.
    17. Ability to cooperate with the supervisor and colleagues in solving topical issues.
    18. Ability to organize the work according to the deadlines, resources, quality requirements by showing self-independent and interest in resource economy.
    19. Ability to complete the inner documentation according to the specific operation regulating documentation.
    20. Ability to follow the requirements of work protection legislation and carry out duties by not harming health of your own and other persons.
    21. Ability to follow the environment protection requirements and carry out the work duties by not harming the environment.
    22. Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the results of your work.
    23. Ability to follow the professional and general ethical principles.

From the age of 15, the transcript of records for partially acquired general basic education OR Certificate of general basic education
Ways to acquire 
Qualifications can be acquired in the framework of education programs or in the evaluation and recognition of non-formal knowledge, skills and competences acquired (in vocational education LKI Levels 2-4).

ECTS credit points 
The unit of the volume of Latvian higher education studies - 1 credit point corresponds to one week of study work in full-time studies (40 credit points per study year).
