– to complete mandatory and optional legal courses of the studies programme, including professional practice in a court and an institution of public administration, to acquire legal research skills, to write and defend a bachelor’s thesis; as a result a broad spectrum of theorethical and practical knowledge in all branches of law (civil law, state law, criminal law, international and European law, legal theory and legal history) must be acquired.
The study programme has the following aims:
– to implement academic studies in legal science complying with the economic, cultural and social needs of the state;
– to ensure to students the possibility to acquire theoretical knowledge and research competencies in legal science, thus ensuring the possibilities to acquire high quality and competitive academic education;
– to prepare highly qualified and competitive specialists of legal science;
– to impart to students knowledge and competencies in such quality and on such a level that would allow them to continue master level studies after completing the programme.
The aims of the study programme will be reached by achieving the following objectives:
– imparting to students the necessary knowledge and skills in legal science, implementing study courses envisaged in the study programme;
– ensuring successive mastering of study courses in high quality;
– attracting the best qualified faculty members for teaching study courses, including lecturers from abroad;
– giving to students scientific basis for professional activities, by developing their abilities to conduct scientific analysis and independent problem solving skills, as well as by preparing students for further scientific research and studies;
– fostering students’ competitiveness under the changing socioeconomic conditions in the local and international labour market;
– implementing internal quality control to assure the quality of the study programme;
– cooperating with employers, other higher educational institutions in Latvia and abroad, inter alia, creating more extensive possibilities for the students to study in foreign higher educational institutions;
– attracting an increasing number of foreign students;
– facilitating all-round development of student’s personality.
The following learning outcomes are planned:
Preparing qualified and competitive legal science specialists, who:
– are able to implement (also to apply) independently Latvia’s and international legal provisions and principles;
– are able to obtain, select, analyse and use information independently;
– are able to draw legal acts independently;
– are able to deal with concrete tasks and problematic issues, applying the methodology for solving legal issues, including disputes, arguing, as well as other approaches and methods;
– are able to present and substantiate one’s opinion independently, to propose solutions for unravelling problematic issues;
– are able to demonstrate skills, which allow finding creative solutions to professional problems;
– are able to demonstrate independently knowledge and understanding, professional approach to fulfilling job responsibilities;
– according to necessity, are able to function in a group or to work individually, to prepare precise and accurate research, reports, to assume responsibility and take initiative;
– are able to assess the impact of one’s own actions upon society and state;
– are able to carry out research in the chosen sub branch;
Are able to demonstrate such competencies as interaction, communication skills, organising and planning skills, are able to assume responsibility for work results and their analysis, understand the lawyer’s ethics.
Are able to provide motivation for their choice to continue studies for acquiring a lawyer’s qualification, improving competencies.
