Upon successful completion of the programme graduates will have acquired skills and comprehension about human biopsychosocial development, connection between the human physical and mental health, social functioning and social problems,social and human rights, systems of social assistance and support resources and management of these resources, intervention to the approaches and methods in the practical social work.

Graduates will be able to work with different client groups and perform the following activities:
– identify and analyse problems and social needs, assess client’s social environment and influence of circumstances, give consultation, render first medical aid, act adequately and without delay in emergency and human life-threatening situations;
– determine social diagnoses and carry out direct and indirect intervention strategies working both with individual cases and groups;
– form and manage multifunctional specialist team and manage supervision of professional activities of least qualifies social workers;
– apply community work approach for solving social problems, carry out preventive work;
– apply legislative enactments, strategies and projects of the Republic of Latvia, plan and implement programmes in social recovery, support and reintegration;
– implement appropriate strategies to protect patients’/ clients’ interests and rights;
– identify and coordinate the participation of volunteers and providers of other services in patient/client recovery and social inclusion;
– support, improve and promote psychosocial functioning and adaptation to illness of patients and their family members within and outside medical establishments, organize the system of social resource attraction for the solution of clients’ social problems;
– assess quality of social services and their compliance with the specificity of clients’ social needs;
– maintain development of own professional skills and ensuring of good work environment.

  • Prasmes

    14. To adhere to the principles of professional and general ethics.

    17. To use professional terminology in the official language and at least two foreign languages (Russian and one of the official languages of the European Union).
